Slix Celebrates Birthday!
On October 19th, administrator Slix has his 16th birthday. "I got my first gift from my girlfriend on my birthday as well." says Slix " and a balloon to carry around school."
Though the turnout was low, it didn't stop Piratice, Chococo and OCtrackiepacsg1 from celebrating. Gluttony wished Slix a Happy Birthday and Smeel wished him a belated one.
"It was awesome!" says Slix "I went to school, came home and pretty much just hung out. My mom took me out for ice cream after dinner.”
5th Generation Revealed
Recently, Nintendo released the 5th Generation Pokemon along with gym leaders, maps and screenshots. 205 pokemon are part of the new generation. Most of them fairly well received.
One of the interesting aspects is that one receives a monkey along with the started. The monkey will be the opposite of your starter.
Purotooga, a blue sea turtle was well received among Poliwager Members. Its evolved form is Abagoura which is upright instead of lying on its stomach.
One that our admin, Slix, like was the new frog series. Unlike the Poliwager family which mainly stays tadpole like (besides Politoed), this series transform from a cute tadpole to a mutilated frog. Slix also likes the yellow spider Bachuru, stating that the bug/electric mix was welcoming.
Smeel's favorite is Zeburaika. Gluttony has already established her dream team. Her team consists of Daikenk, Erufuun, Gochiruzeru, Kenhorou, Shubarugo, and Shibirudon.
Manning Beats Manning in Manning Bowl
On September 19, The Indianapolis Colts and New York Giants faced off in Indiana. This was the second meeting between Quarterbacks Peyton and Eli Manning.
Peyton Manning (34) and Eli Manning 29) grew up in Mississippi and attended the same high school. Peyton Manning went to Texas while Eli went to his father's Alma Mater, Ole Miss. Both Peyton and Eli are 1st round draft picks. Peyton got drafted to the Cots and Eli to the Chargers. The prior time they met, Peyton beat Eli. This time was no different. The Colts dominated the game and won 38-14. While the Colts were just enjoying the night, the Giants were struggling with the running game and offensive line. After the game Peyton and Eli met, giving each other a quick word and a pat on the back, they then departed on their own way, both denying an interview. One of the phrases exchanged in their succinct meeting was, "I love you".
Fall rolls in new TV season
Fall means the leaves turn color, the temperature turns cold, but most importantly, the new TV season hits the network. On NBC, the Event is starting its new series. Some say this is the new 24. The Event is about one specific catastrophe. Throughout the season it will reveal the causes and effects of the incident. The Office kicks off its 8th season by revealing the hook up of Gabe and Erin.
On FOX, The Simpsons starts its 22 season. Glee also continues on its faddish run. For CBS, The Big Bang Theory starts its 4th season after the break up of Leonard and Penny. ABC debuts it's comedy night with Emmy winning Modern Family and The Middle. Other shows starting their season this fall include: Outsourced, Family Guy, Stargate Universe and Undercovers.
Teachers...an ideal role model?
"If you need help, contact a teacher". This phrase is often advice for students with problems in not only school, but in life. Yet recently, the more I observe, the more I learn, the less respect I have for my teachers. Although once placed on a pedestal by me, they are starting to lose my admiration. Ever since I have moved to California, I have discovered who teachers really are. Over my time in high school, it has become transparent to me. Teachers are hypocritical because they themselves are often lazy, unmotivated cheaters.
Teachers can be irresponsible. They often miss important deadlines. Many times, teachers have promised to correct an assignment only to not complete it. Instead, they go to a party. Instead they prioritize leisure activities over their job. When students asked them if they have completed their job, teachers often give snark responses like, "I have a life you know?!” Teachers would never tolerate such snark and attitude from students. Teachers are often late to class. They often meander in the hallways with other teachers, walking into their classrooms nonchalantly five minutes after their tardy bell. In my school arriving late with incomplete work usually results in F's and detentions.
Though it is not transparent, teachers cheat. Students, look at today's homework. Who created it? Were the questions devised by the text book company or by the teachers themselves? Often times, it is devised by the textbook company. We are paying our teachers 40,000 to scan and copy worksheets from the book! We are also paying them to rephrase the lesson from the textbook. This is stealing someone else's work. Teachers often generalize grades. Some teachers will give everyone the same grade because they are too lazy to go over the individual's hard work. Teachers will give the same grade to students that did a mediocre job and students that perfected their project. Signs of generalized grades are that you see: No grade on the project itself and/or you receive the same grade as everyone you talk to.
Teachers have become unmotivated and disinterested. With the increase of students per teacher, teachers often become unconcerned with their students. They can not give personal attention to students when they have over 200 other students. Teachers are no longer a fountain of resources, instead they only contain the knowledge they attain from the textbook. Some no longer have a passion for what they teach; they are no longer filled with interesting background knowledge on the subject.
If teachers were students, many would receive detentions, ethic violations and F's for their irresponsible, lazy, and procrastinating ways. Teachers always admonish us for being disorganized, unprepared and unfocused when they themselves blatantly display these qualities. Many are lazy and no longer show personal interest for students. We have always been told to look up to our teachers, but when the polish is gone, should we?
