Ever Lose a Shiny?

Thankfully, I've, to my knowledge, never lost a shiny; however, I've never actually successfully completed a shiny hunt before, despite having caught a total of 11 wild shiny pokemon (1 in X, 2 in Shield, 2 in Legends Arceus, 3 in Go, and 3 in a fangame).

My first shiny was a Magikarp in Diamond. I didn’t know what shinys were but it was Gold so I thought it was really cool! I caught it and then wondered what would happen if I evolved it. It became a Red Gyarados! I was super excited about!

I met a kid who knew more about Pokémon than me and said it was a shiny Pokémon but didn’t tell me it was a 1/8192 chance of finding. He ask me to trade it for his Eevee which he said was super rare and is the only Pokémon to evolve into 7 different Pokémon. I agreed foolishly.

Later I discovered you can get an Eevee from Bebe from beating the game and so I asked for my Shiny Gyarados back. He said he traded it away (could of been a lie) so I never saw it again.

My third shiny I ever found was a random shiny Kyogre in HeartGold. I learned I can SR to try trying catching a legendary so I didn’t have to bring an actual team to weaken it. That backfired when it was shiny after like 3 SRs. I couldn’t weaken it without the risk of killing it and I had no Status moves. I desperately tried to catch it at full health but it eventually struggled to death.
I did reclaimed it years later tho.

In XY I was hunting in a Safari Zone that had Kirlia in it. Kirlia had teleport. I prepared a team to counter teleport so it wouldn’t flee. When I found a shiny one I completely forgot about teleport and switched to the wrong Pokémon and it fled.
I caught like 3 more shiny kirlia after so it was fine but still hurts to lose a shiny.

In FireRed, I was having fun fishing in the Safari Zone and catching as many Dratini and Dragonair as a I can, seen they are pretty rare and have a high glee rate. Absolutely unexpected and by sheer terrible luck, I found a shiny Seaking. The worst possible place to find a shiny. I always hated Safari Zones because I didn’t want to find a shiny in there. And as predicted, after a few balls, it fled. I ended up taking a break from Pokémon for a few months because of it. It would have been my 2nd Gen 3 shiny but it just had to run.

Like many people, I failed to catch many shinys from online raids in SwSh but I don’t really count those. Only would count if it was found in my game but I never failed one’s I found myself.

Almost forgot, in Pokémon Gold Virtual Console, I bred 49 shinys plus I had my free shiny Gyarados. Then I decided to be the dumbest man in the world and ended up getting my save corrupted. So I lost all those shinys sadly.

Everything has taught me to be extra cautious when dealing with shinys so I always come prepared and do my research now.

I lost my far share of shinies, I reseted a shiny egg once in Y because I wanted to hatch it in a specific location, but I forgot to save after the egg got generated, thought I saved after filling a box up, but I didn't. Thankfully I was able to get another one less than a hundred eggs later. That was for a Birthday gift to a friend since Murkrow was her favorite pokemon, I've even EV train it.

Also remember my Victreebel using Razor Leaf on a shiny camerupt after I missclicked. I wanted to use sleep powder, didn't reclaim that one tho.

I also remember getting three shiny in a day in the 2021 Safari weeks, they all fled. It was in order a Rhydon, a Skiploom and a riolu. I was in VC when it happenned, so my friends heard me scream a whole lot lmao
