Hello! I go by SharKing (for now, at least), but you can also call me Devin!
I'll be honest, I've known about Poliwager and his site for quite some time, but I never really felt I had the time to join another forum till now. What finally changed that was me seeing his 15th-anniversary post on Bluesky and feeling nostalgic enough to at least give it a whirl for old times' sake... on a new forum to me, but still. XD
So how to sum myself up? In short: old nerd. I've always had a pretty strong grasp of numbers and math, I've been using computers for various purposes pretty much my whole life, and as you can tell from the... probably fearsome length of my intro post, I tend to type way too much. (And this is me trying to keep it short. lol)
My interests? Well, obviously, I'm a big fan of Pokémon; have been for almost 25 years, in fact. I got my first Game Boy and Red/Blue in Christmas '99, I finally figured out how to leave my character's room about six months later (I didn't have glasses yet, cut me some slack), and I've been firmly hooked ever since. Of course, that's just one part of my love for video games in general; mainly RPGs like the Pokémon, Final Fantasy, and Shin Megami Tensei series, but also some other random games like Super Smash Bros, Sekiro, Minecraft... well, too many others to name.
Pokémon also indirectly led me to discover an interest in learning Japanese by, of all things, repeatedly seeing the creatures' JP names in katakana on Bulbapedia and getting curious enough to learn how those things work. That seed was planted just over 15 years ago, it led to me actually buying a Japanese copy of HeartGold before HGSS even made it to the US (best $80 I ever spent), and while I'm still not quite fluent (I was too scared to try studying kanji until a few years ago), I like to think I've made some progress there, at least. よろしく!
And that's about it for me. Nice to meet you all!

Hey there Devin! Good to see you here!
Your history with Pokémon and other RPGs is really neat. It's cool to see someone learn Japanese through them! I wanted to when I was younger, but never really tried. Though I did buy a few Japanese Pokémon games in recent years, I just play them kinda blind.
Anyway, I hope you enjoy it here and have a look around and what else we have going on. We've got an art contest happening, and I'm sure you'll find other areas to post in too with all the things you're interested in.

Welcome Devin, glad to have you here on the Forums! We have quite a few of the same interests it seems! I'm also a huge fan of the Shin Megami Tensei series besides Pokémon and I've also gotten into Minecraft in the past year, too. I've actually wanted to move from exclusively playing Persona, to also playing other games like Catherine and Shin Megami Tensei (the brand name games besides Persona). I hope you enjoy your time here on the Forums, and feel free to let us know if you need anything or hit us up to chat! I would love to chat some Persona sometime!!
