And not the one that holds up buildings.
I have very faint memories of playing this game as a child, and I couldn't find a post about Columns yet, so here you go.
Anyway, I was just gonna post my experiences when I play the game later. Was gonna play the third one on my Vita, but since I can't find the charger, I will play the third one on my 3ds.
I made this topic because I know some people here like Columns, so just talk away.

Oh yeah, I know that game; It's on a copy of a Sega games collection I have.

Oh that has Sonic!
Sonic is pretty cool!!
Anyways, I have played a game of Columns. It is pretty good! I managed to beat a spider!!
I didn't know that you could sabotage and get diagonal columns.
I also found out that the three omni-piece thing you can use to change it into a color, or help your board/hurt your opponents.

The update. I have finished the easiest game mode. But because I did I only got to play three stages. A spider, a bat, and then skeleton. From playing it I have gotten better. At screwing the opponent really. I started a harder difficulty now. And maybe I'll finally start to use some of the items I get.

I love Columns.
My aunt had Columns 3 for the Sega Genesis when I was little, and they played it and then I got to play when I was over at their house. Eventually I got better than my uncle even! At first we didn't know you could press the "C button" (or A) to hit your opponent to make the bars go up, but once we did, the game got even more competitive among my family. All the cousins now play when we get together for holidays. Later on I tried Columns 1, but it's not as good in my opinion as 3. I love the multiplayer aspect of Columns 3 as well. If you have a multi-tap adapter, you can play with up to 5 players at once! The music in this game is also great!
Here's a snippet:
Columns 2 is a lot harder because it was an arcade game originally. I got it from the SEGA AGES series on Switch, and it's really fun! My sister ended up saving her file and replaying the game until she beat all 70 levels that were required to unlock the other Sega characters as little bonuses. The music isn't quite as good in 2 as in 3, also.
If you like any type of puzzle game, try Columns out if you can. It's different than other puzzle games like Tetris, but has a lot of similar elements as well.

Absolutely love that game! Shame the GBA Columns Crown didn't live to that reputation. Regardless, most of my childhood memories was of the Sega Genesis game as well. Just recently found the original cart but can't really check to see if it still works as most of our Mega Drive/Genesis consoles are now defunct and don't work...
I've been able to play more of the Game Gear version thanks to the 3DS Virtual Console. Not much difference wise between the two games aside from the music being more chip tune-esk.

What’s wrong with your Genesis?

As far as things go, I don't have a clue... Most of it might be just lack of time to fix it and just costs.Slix wrote: Wed Apr 07, 2021 6:04 pmOh yeah I forgot. To me, Columns Crown is an interesting attempt to revive it but it had a bit of a difficulty ramp personally. Although I've been used to single player games that going against a CPU can be a bit too much...
