question about the Mewtwo Battle

I don't know if this question goes here but I didn't know where to ask it.
So, for the Mewtwo battle, it says that you need to raise the six respective pokemon, and also be the original trainer.
Does it matter if I'm not the original trainer but I still hatched and raised the pokemon? If yes, then that kinda sucks because it's not easy finding a starter from the lab. I was lucky enough to find a Bulbasaur and Charmander in the daycare...

Correct. You must be the original owner (in other words, the Pokémon must not have an "Original Owner" listed - just you as the Owner).

A hint: You can breed Pokémon to get them originally owned by you!
