Why is your buddy pokemon your buddy in Pokemon Go? I have seen different reasons. Some people prefer to show off their most powerful, some people prefer a pokemon that sits on their shoulder , some just want to get candies for specific pokemon. So why do you have yours?
Personally I have an alolan raticate named Chonky (Pronounced Chunky) And I just have her as my buddy because I feel like I stand out. My other friends have regular pokemon like charmeleon or sunkern but I prefer to stand out somewhat.

I usually use whatever I need candies for. Currently that's Shinx, which I've walked like 200 km with so far. 
Sometimes though I'll use a Poliwag, or one of my shinies, or a region exclusive I have (specifically my Corsola).
